Which barcode type should I use?
EAN-13 for retail products (13-digit GTIN numbers). Code 128 for internal labels, serial numbers and logistics — it encodes any text. Code 39 for older industrial systems. UPC-A for US retail.
Do I need a GS1 membership for EAN-13?
To sell through major retailers, yes — GS1 allocates your company prefix and you assign the rest. For internal use or testing, you can generate any EAN-13 here; the check digit is computed automatically.
What's the check digit?
