Data Size Converter — FAQs
GB vs GiB?
GB = 10⁹ bytes (decimal, used by disk makers); GiB = 2³⁰ ≈ 1.074 GB (binary, used by operating systems). That's why a '500GB' drive shows as ~465 GiB.
Is 1KB 1000 or 1024 bytes?
Both exist: KB/MB/GB are decimal (1,000), KiB/MiB/GiB are binary (1,024). Disk makers use decimal; operating systems usually binary.
