Legacy Data Access

Your business-critical data lives in a system nobody can reach without RDP or the VPN client. A small agent on that server gives it a modern, read-only web dashboard — no migration, no open ports, no new infrastructure.

The Essential-Data Trap

Compliance events

Audit, tax inquiry, insurance claim, legal discovery — 'pull 7 years of records' means booting the legacy box and praying it still runs.

Vendor hostage situations

Proprietary formats, per-export fees, or a vendor that's gone — the data exists but isn't yours in any usable sense.

Key-person risk

Only Dave knows the terminal commands for the 2004 system. Dave retires, and the data becomes legend.

Business blockers

M&A diligence, insurance renewals, bank lending — all demand historical data the company can't easily produce.

How It Works

1

Agent on the server

A lightweight Windows service installs beside your legacy app — SQL Server, Access, proprietary formats, file shares. It makes outbound connections only: no open ports, no VPN, no firewall changes.

2

Continuous replica

Your data is continuously extracted to a queryable cloud copy — change-tracking, not dumps. Read-only, scoped, audited. The production system never takes the load.

3

Web dashboard

A modern web interface gives your team the data in a browser — search, reports, saved queries. From a phone on-site or a laptop at home, without 'dialing in' to anything.

Siloed Applications

Line-of-business apps, on-prem ERPs, practice management, legacy POS — anything holding data you can't reach without RDP.

Queryable Web Surface

Saved queries, dashboards and search over your data — employees get the answers, not a connection to the database.

Escape Hatch

Encrypted backup and a portable replica — vendor goes dark, app hits end-of-life, machine dies: your data is already safe elsewhere.

Better Than the Alternatives

VPN / RDP

Network-level access — broad, risky, needs client config, and still just gives a connection. You get the pipe, not the data.

BI tools (Power BI, Tableau)

Need the database network-reachable or a gateway plus per-user licences — and they're for analysts, not staff who need an answer now.

Custom internal portal

A six-figure dev project before it answers a single question — most companies just don't build it, so the data stays trapped.

The agent way

Outbound-only agent + replica + web dashboard. Data-level access — scoped, read-only, mobile-friendly — without exposing the server at all.

Legacy Data Access FAQ

Does the legacy system stay in place?+

Yes — the agent lives beside it, not instead of it. The app keeps doing its job; the agent just makes its data reachable. No migration, no disruption.

Is this safe for production systems?+

Safer than VPN access — the dashboard is read-only and scoped, so staff get data not network access. Queries hit the replica, not the live system, so your 2004 box doesn't absorb the load.

What if the vendor is gone or the software is abandoned?+

That's exactly the case this is built for. The replica extracts the data before the emergency — vendor shutdown, end-of-life, machine death — so the answer to 'where did it go' is 'it's already copied.'

What systems can it read?+

Anything with readable storage — SQL Server, MySQL, Access files, proprietary formats with documented structures, file shares. If it can be read, it can be surfaced; adapters are per-system config, not a rebuild.
